Mental Health Benefits of Yoga

Larry Gaynor is a resident of New Hudson, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in business. In his free time, Larry Gaynor enjoys swimming and practicing yoga.

Yoga is a popular form of exercise that requires both your mind and your body. It soothes a wide range of illnesses and helps relax in stressful situations. Yoga places a greater emphasis on the internal experience of the practitioner than on the external experience and has a positive impact on your mental health.

Firstly, yoga helps to relieve anxiety. It plays an important part in restoring balance and harmony to your chaotic life by regulating your stress response system, clearing your mind of thoughts so you can focus on the present, and calming down your nerves. Yoga can also help you relax and decrease anxiety without the need for prescription drugs by lowering your heart rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure.

People struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) also practice yoga to reduce its symptoms. Many symptoms of PTSD are physical, such as increased heart rate and sweating that can occur when flashbacks or strong memories of trauma occur.

Yoga targets the physical symptoms of stress, worry, fear, and depression and helps to resolve these problems.
